Art and Culture
Textiles are a major industry for Wangaratta and have long been a part of the town's history. The Stitched Up Textile Festival (held biannually June/July) showcases the work of local and visiting textile artists.
The Wangaratta Art Gallery is a unique regional art gallery housed in the original Presbyterian Church located in the arts precinct, a short walk from the CBD. The Gallery collects textile art, small sculpture, wood, and significant works of art from, and about the north east of Victoria region. It also collects and shows works of art by state and national artists of significance.
Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre is a state of the art multimillion dollar venue which opened in September 2009 and offers a new alternative to regional conferencing and entertainment.
We are spoilt with numerous craft outlets throughout the region.
If your interests lies in scrapbooking, patchwork, weaving, knitting, spinning, sewing or pottery our region is sure to have something for you.
