Feel the Manouche is a term derived from the Romany gypsies of Europe. The jazz style in Australia has become known as Gypsy Jazz or Gypsy Swing, often attributed to guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grapelli who founded the all strings The Quintet du Hot Club de France, in the 1930s.
The band features George Washingmachine – violin, ukelele and vocal, Arthur Washington – guitar, Jerry Washington – guitar, Clare O’Meara – accordion, violin & vocal, Stan Valacos – double bass. It toured Cuba late last year; in February this year it was in France; and before coming to Wangaratta will tour extensively throughout the eastern states of Australia.
