There are plenty of picnic spots to choose from on this spectacular river with many beaches, gentle grassy banks and little river offshoots. You can take your time finding the best spot before throwing the picnic blanket down, enjoying a Milawa Cheese platter with famous locally produced cheese, biscuits, grapes, nuts and a cheeky glass of Brown Brothers Prosecco.

You are kayaking the Mighty Murray. This is a little true blue Australian adventure. Experience the broad and Mighty Murray as it majestically flows and pushes you along Australia’s longest river, at 2,508 kilometres in length.

The Murray rises in the Australian Alps and meanders across Australia’s inland plains, forming the border between New South Wales and Victoria.

Your tour starts below the Yarrawonga weir wall. As you launch take a look up the weir wall – the wall is the largest structure for miles around.

You will thoroughly enjoy the Murrays River vistas and its large stands of gum tress, flocks of cockatoos and look out for the short-necked turtle and Murray River crayfish.

A keen eye will spot a ‘Canoe Tree’, if you paddle far enough you can find one at the entrance to Bruce’s Bend.

The broad bends in the river, the gentle flow and the large river beaches make for a scenic and fun adventure.

River Tribe provide bike hire, bike transfers, packages and logistics to suit your adventure. Start at a location suitable to you. In Bright you make your way along the sealed trail to Porepunkah, then on to Ovens, followed by Myrtleford, Beechworth and Wangaratta.

With the unmistakable images of Mt Buffalo as your backdrop, Beechworths wineries and Milawas’ local produce you will find yourself cycling through some of the most spectacular Rail Trail country Australia has to offer.

The King Valley and Milawa areas pack a punch with the best views, the best wines and the best produce in Victoria.

Milawa has a great selection of producers, wineries and eateries. Well known for Milawa Cheese Factory, Brown Brothers, Milawa Mustards, Sam Miranda and plenty of other wineries and producers to taste your way around.

This valley is suited to the growing of cool, crisp white wines and savoury, spicy reds. You will also find some great food produce and tastings such as Milawa mustards, the olive shop, Milawa cheese factory and more along the way.

Views of the King River, vineyards and in the distance a glimpse of Mt Buffalo and surrounding mountains, bushland and the odd kangaroo and echidna.

An adventurous day out on the Ovens River spotting Kingfishers, turtles and maybe dropping a line in to catch a local trout. This longer paddle is for the more able kayaker looking to go out for longer, see more and have a bit more of an adventure. With more river to paddle there are more snags to navigate, more fishing to be done and more habitat to explore.

Take plenty of food and water or organise a picnic of antipasto, soft drink and sweet treat. Some guests take fishing equipment and some go for the whole day. Some guests go for a speed challenge with the quickest doing the whole 24 kilometres in four hours.

An amazing overnight kayaking experience on the stunning Ovens River. Paddle by day and camp at night with a bushfire and a few beers. The twinkling stars will keep you company and in the morning enjoy an exclusive view of the river.

For overnight kayak adventures you have a few two options:

Option one: Build Your Own Adventure where you choose where to launch and how long you go. If you need equipment and supplies River Tribe can supply: kayaks, dry bags, dry box, transfers, tents, camping equipment and food.

Option two, Tarrawingee Base Camp is a two day, one night adventure with equipment provided and options for food provisioning.

The Tarrawingee base camp is an established Parks Victoria public camp-ground overlooking the ovens river and is free to use. Other spots along the river can also be utilised, get out and explore before choosing the best spot to camp.

The Ovens River is a great spot to explore, drop a line in, go for a swim and escape the hustle and bustle. Fires are allowed here and fire wood is available from river tribe (fire restrictions may apply during fire season).

You are literally paddling to your plate on this great Aussie adventure.

Settle in for your kayak along the broad and mighty Murray as it majestically flows and pushes you along the seven kilometre stretch of the river.

You will thoroughly enjoy the Murray River vistas and its large stands of gum tress, flocks of cockatoos and look out for the short-necked turtle and Murray River crayfish.

Stop at a river beach for a splash and maybe you will see a ‘roo or two hoping through the bush. Look up in the gum canopy and a keen eye will spot a koala.

At the end of your kayak your guide will meet you and take you around Rich Glen Estate, one of the largest family owned and operated olive groves in Australia. It has 36,000 olive tree. Rich Glen has a well-established café and shop where you can browse the extensive locally produced products.

Your tour ends with a bang, a share platter of house made dips, Estate grown olives, Signature EVOO, Dukkah, local butchers meats, homemade traditional Salami, Boosey Creek cheeses, dried fruit, nuts, crusty bread, crackers and a garden salad with Poppy’s dressing. (subject to seasonal changes)

You may encounter incredible wildlife including kangaroos, emus, koalas, goannas and much more.

The river has an incredible diversity of birdlife and the natural history of the river dates back more than 130 million years.

This tour allows you to get to know and experience Australia’s Murray River, often referred to as the Mighty Murray.

The Murray River supports a variety of unique river life. This includes native fish such as the famous Murray cod, trout cod, golden perch, Macquarie perch, silver perch, eel-tailed catfish, Australian smelt, western carp gudgeon, and other aquatic species like the Murray short-necked turtle, Murray River crayfish, broad-clawed yabbies, and the large clawed Macrobrachium shrimp.
