Wangaratta embraces cultural diversity and actively promotes a wide range of initiatives that promote the benefits of a culturally, linguistically and religiously diverse community. A vibrant centre for Arts, Culture and Heritage it's no wonder the regional city is home to a number of galleries, festivals and performing arts events occurring throughout the year.
We are proud of our cultural, social, natural and built heritage.
‘Wangaratta’ is the Pangerang word for the long neck cormorant. ‘Wanga’- meaning long neck, and ‘Ratta’ meaning cormorant. These birds are a common sight on our two beautiful rivers, the Torryong (Ovens) & Poodumbia (King).
We invite you to come and join us where the river's meet; to immerse yourself in our lively and all inspiring cultural community, where a passionate arts community will embrace you as part of the family and share their stories of old and new.
