Emergency information

Stay informed

Vic Emergency is Victoria's combined source of emergency information and warnings.

Download the free app or go on the website and create watch zones, and register for warnings.

You can also tune into local ABC radio 106.5FM, commercial and community designated radio stations to listen to local radio for warnings and advice while you’re on the road. The Emergency Victoria website emergency.vic.gov.au has a full list of emergency broadcasters.

Total Fire Ban

Wangaratta is in the North East Victoria Fire District also known as District 24. This is important to know if you plan on travelling into or throughout our region during the Fire Danger Period. If you are travelling through, it is important to also note the districts you are travelling into and take note of upcoming restrictions during your stay.

Check if a Total Fire Ban has been declared for the area you are visiting. On a Total Fire Ban day, campfires are not allowed. Only gas and electric barbecues are allowed if you follow the regulations.

For more information about Total Fire Bans, visit the CFA website

On Severe or Extreme Fire Danger Rating days, it’s safer to travel to cities and towns. Never travel into a high risk bushfire area when a Code Red Fire Danger Rating has been forecast.

Road and Park Closures

For information on road closures visit Vic Roads

For information on National Park closures visit Parks Victoria or  call 13 19 63.  On days of forecast Code Red Fire Danger Rating, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and Parks Victoria will close parks and forests (including state forests and national parks) in the relevant weather district for public safety.
