However you choose to arrive, be it via road, rail, or air, Wangaratta and surrounds enjoys easy access from Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney and is the gateway to Victoria's High Country.

Travelling by car?  

Wangaratta is an easy drive located just off the Hume Highway.  We are;

  • 45 minutes from Albury / Wodonga
  • 2.5 hours from Melbourne and Bendigo 
  • 4.5 hours from Canberra
  • 6.5 hours from Sydney

Travelling by train?  

Serviced by both V-Line's Melbourne to Albury line and the XPT (express passenger train) that travels between Sydney and Melbourne there are up to ten train services (five each way) that stop at Wangaratta train station, plus extra services that run as coach services from Seymour or to Bright.  Bikes may be taken on V-Line trains if space is available, and can be taken on the XPT, however you must reserve a place for your bike when purchasing your ticket. We are;

  • 3 hours from Southern Cross Station (Melbourne) on the V-Line train and just over 2.5 hours on the XPT train
  • 8.5 hours from Sydney on the XPT train

Victoria's Great Alpine Road. The 339-kilometre adventure along Australia's highest year-round accessible sealed road leads you through diverse landscapes, from lofty mountain ranges, down plunging valleys, into lush forests, and past rolling vineyards to sparkling coastal waterways. 

Mansfield to Wangaratta via Whitfield.  This stunning route includes the scenic Mansfield to Whitfield Road which winds it way past attractions such as Tolmie and the Kelly Tree as well as Powers Lookout before arriving into Whitfield where you will turn onto what is passionately known as Prosecco Road taking you past wineries, farmland and the beautiful King River before arriving into Wangaratta.
